Dr. S. S. Ramesh, Chief Cardiologist

Dr. S. S. Ramesh, born in the Coorg District of Karnataka, India, was educated in Davangere, Karnataka. He did his graduate and postgraduate studies at the JJM Medical College, Davangere and did D.M. Cardiology at KEM Hospital, Mumbai. Dr. Ramesh has also trained extensively at various leading institutions of the U.S. - The University of Alabama, Cleveland Clinic, Milwaukee and Washington DC.

Dr. Ramesh's institution building started with the establishment of the Department of Cardiology at the St. John's Medical College Hospital in 1980, He was instrumental in creating cardiology departments at S.P.D.H. Sindhi Hospital, Yellamma Dasappa Hospital and Apollo Mallya Hospital in 1997.

At present, he is the Chairman and Managing Director of Vivus which he established in 1999.

His primary interest being coronary angioplasty and other interventions in Cardiology, Dr. Ramesh has pioneered interventional cardiology in Karnataka. He was the first interventional cardiologist to do Coronary Angiogram, Coronary Angioplasty and various interventional procedures in Karnataka.
Dr. Ramesh is actively involved in various professional organizational activities. He is the Indian representative of the Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology and the Convenor for Karnataka State Medical & Dental Alumni Association of America. With nearly 100 scientific papers to his credit, Dr. Ramesh has been recognized by 'Marquis - Who is Who in Medicine & Healthcare in the World'.
The underlying principle of Dr. Ramesh's work has been a steady commitment to render quality care to patients at an affordable cost.
Dr. Keshava R., Director Cardiac Catheterisation Lab

Dr. R. Keshava is a graduate of MBBS from Government Medical College, Bellary. He completed MD and National Board of examination in Internal medicine from Bangalore Medical College. He completed National Board of examination in Cardiology from Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai. Presently he is Director- Cardiac Cathlab at Vivus Heart Centre, BMJ Hospital.

Dr Keshava has carried out more than 10,000 angiograms and more than 1000 angioplasties. He has been trained in G.B. Pant Hospital, New Delhi in the field of Cardiac electrophysiology and ablation. He has implanted more than 250 pacemakers and 40 heart failure devices & ICD. He is actively involved in Cardiac EP programmes. In 2005 he trained at University Hospital of Lariboisiere, Paris in advanced Cardiovascular Electrophysiology.

Dr. Keshava has been principal investigator in about twenty clinical trials conducted at the Heart Centre. He is involved in teaching the DNB students at the centre and is a well-liked teacher at the training programs arranged for the physicians on cardiac related technologies. He has published more than twenty papers in National Interventional Journals in the field of ICUS (Intra Coronary Ultrasound), Lipids, Role of Growth Hormone in dilated Cardiomyopathy and Head Up Tilt Study.

Dr. Satish Chandra Govind, Director Non-invasive Cardiac Cardiology

Dr Satish Chandra Govind is the Director of Non Invasive Cardiac Lab, Vivus BMJ Heart Centre-Vivus Group. He was instrumental in setting up the non-invasive cardiology unit at the Vivus BMJ Heart Centre. The unit is fully equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment catering to the full spectrum of non invasive cardiac investigations. The investigations include - routine echocardiography, dobutamine stress echo, trans oesophageal echo, tissue Doppler echo, 3-D echo, peripheral vascular imaging, Treadmill testing, Holter monitoring, Event recorder and Tilt table test.

Dr Govind is the recipient of a scholarship for research in echocardiography, 2003-04, at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm by the Swedish Institute. He was awarded a PhD for his pioneering work with Colour Tissue Doppler imaging and Speckle imaging. He was fortunate to have Professor Lars Ake Brodin, Deputy Dean - KTH as his chief supervisor for his dissertation work.

Dr Govind has published extensively in international journals. Dr. Govind is also involved in conducting clinical trials. His area of interest is coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and valvular heart disease using specialized applications like Tissue Doppler imaging, Speckle imaging, 3-D imaging in routine echo and dobutamine stress echo.
He is the coordinator for Fellowship programme in Non Invasive Cardiology (recognized by the Karnataka State Health University) at Vivus BMJ Heart Centre. He is also the Course Director for training technologists at the School of Non Invasive Cardiac Technology, Vivus BMJ Heart Centre
He is a member of the Indian Academy of Echocardiography (National and State), Cardiological Society of India (National, State and Bangalore), American Society of Echocardiography and the European Association of Echocardiography. He is presently the Secretary of the Karnataka state chapter of Indian Academy of Echocardiography.
Dr. Satish Kini, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgery

Dr. Kini completed his MBBS and MS from Pune and M.Ch., CVTS from Mumbai. He was Associate Professor in St. John's Hospital before joining Vivus as Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon.

Dr. Satish Kini comes with an experience of working as a cardiac surgeon across the world. He spent some years as a Fellow in transplants, LVADS and Adult Cardiac Surgery in Houston Texas. He was a Registrar at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Australia and as a Senior House Surgeon In Cardiff, U.K.
He has presented several papers in national and international conferences and is a member of several Medical Councils.
Dr. Bhairappa Shivakumar, Consultant Cardiologist

Dr. Shivakumar completed his MBBS and MD in Internal Medicine from Gulbarga University and his DM from Sir J J Group of hospitals in Mumbai. Before joining Vivus as a consultant cardiologist, Dr. Shivakumar worked as lecturer at the Grant Medical College, Mumbai.

As consultant cardiologist at Vivus BMJ Heart Centre he has performed all cardiac interventions including coronary angioplasties , peripheral vascular interventions , valvuloplasties ,permanent pacemaker implantations and coronary interventions through the radial route
He is an active participant in all the academic programs offered by the group and is a Principle investigator in a few prestigious global multi-centric clinical trials.
Dr. Karthik Vasudevan, Consultant Cardiologist

Dr. Karthik Vasudevan did his M.B.B.S. from Bangalore Medical College, Bangalore. He completed his M.D. (Internal Medicine) from Bangalore Medical College and then went on to getting his D.M. (Cardiology) from Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology. He as worked as Cardiologist in several hospitals before joining the Vivus Group. He has several publications to his credit.

Dr. D. V. Rama, Consultant Cardio-Diabetologist

Dr. Rama has worked in the Endocrinology and Diabetes department of Mallya hospital before joining the Vivus group. She completed her MBBS and MD from Hubli and her DNB from St. Martha's in Bangalore.

She has participated in several national conferences and participates actively in the training programs offered by the Heart Centre.

She independently runs the Cardiac program at the Sharada Rotary Medical Centre.
Dr. Srikanth K. V., Consultant Cardiologist

Dr. Srikanth received his MBBS from Bangalore Medical College. He went on to get his MD in General medicine from Cuttack and his DM Cardiology from Grant Medical College, Mumbai. He has several research papers to his credit.

Dr. Anupama Hegde, Consultant Cardiologist

Dr. Anupama has experience as a visiting consultant at various hospitals and also running her own clinic. After her MBBS she has done her DNB in General Medicine and was the first student to complete her DNB in Cardiology from Heart Centre.

She currently has taken charge of the Vivus unit at St. Theresa's, Bangalore.
